MANY CHANGES COMING SOON - I have recently been given the challenge to create an artistic narrative to accompany every manuscript of my research and I intend to do so. In addition to this work, my photography will be moving to a new website as a collaborative project group, Fostering Inquiry, to make science accessible to varying age groups and classroom structures through visually interesting activities.
Photography mission statement: As an ecologist, educator, and photographer I'm always traveling, meeting new people, and experiencing new things. Wherever I am, I spend a lot of my time thinking about the educational methods we can use to serve learners of a multitude of backgrounds and with a diversity of goals. I believe photography is one of those tools. Bold and meaningful images spark conversation and fuel deeper questions. Conservation and nature photographers like Cristina Mittermeier, Paul Nicklen, Danielle DaSilva and others that inspire us have been using photography to tell the stories of endangered species and cultures with increasing success to ever broadening audiences. It is my goal to push the bounds of what has been done in the field of environmental photography before to create more opportunities for educators to connect students to course material and for art to connect to all people in order to raise their scientific engagement and investment to the complex, changing world around us.
